Global Playground is our market name. In 2003, husband and I got married in Bali and absolutely fell in love with the people and the place.
We also became aware of just how lucky we are in Canada. As our own little project of heart, we started Global Playground and are amazed to have been helping people with it for almost 20 years! I am a teacher as my real job and I collect up our school’s unused school supplies at the end of the year and we take them to Bali to donate to needy families.
We then work with local artisans and buy up local crafts and jewellery to refill the bags for our return trip to Canada. We then sell these handicrafts and jewellery at markets any time we are able to. All of the money raised through the sales goes into sponsoring families school and medical costs and buying new product the next year. Our prices range from $5 - $20 and every $15 spent pays for a month of school for a child in Bali. By purchasing from us you are helping both our artisans who we pay fair trade pricing to and our children who receive all the profit. And us, well we just get sleep well at night knowing we are doing our part to make this world a little brighter.
Our goal for the next few years as we near retirement and have a bit more time is to work through the process of getting registered as a Canadian charity and taking on bigger projects.
